I love sound bites! Here are some of my favorites from the Mysterious Cities of Gold and other Great Shows.

Episode 13: Esteban in Japanese! This line in the English version was "That's where we'll find Chela, the first of the seven cities of gold." (Any DragonBall fans recognize this voice? Its Goku!)

Episode 15: "We're saved! Saved by the Sun!!"

Episode 19: "Fly, my great bird! Fly! Save us, please! Fly!!"

Episode 21: "In any crisis its always best to keep your head!"

Episode 23: "You really are the limit. Gold, gold! That is all you ever talk about!"

Episode 24: "I'm called Esteban. But when you ask for somebody's name its more polite to tell them your own name first!"

Episode 31: "No, not given up hope exactly but... I only mean that even if I never do find my father, I'm happy to travel the same roads he once did."

Episode 33: "Then the gates to the Cities of Gold... So you can tell us where they are!"

Episode 37: "After your explanation, I think I know how important these medallions are. I know how dangerous they are too. But even if the Great Treasure has to fall into Olmec hands... I can't turn my back on Tao! He's my friend!"

Episode 11: Japanese Zia line. She is welcoming Tao and Esteban to her village. (Any other DragonBall fans think this might be Chichi?)

Episode 11: Tao line in Japanese. In the English version, this line was: "You only have to smile and the sun comes out?" (Anyone familiar with DragonBall should recognize this voice.)

Episode 35: "I can understand why my attitude may surprise you. At the beginning, when I first found Esteban and he agreed to come with me on this adventure, I thought of nothing except the gold. I thought that as soon as I discovered where the Cities of Gold were, I wouldn't need the children anymore. But we have all been together for so long. I began to get used to their being around. Used to helping them, to being close to them and now I think that if they weren't here...I'm sure I would miss them."

Pedro

Episode 1: "No wait, listen, I meant what I said. Put up some money, invest in our adventure and help us find the City of Gold." Same line in French

Episode 37: Laughs "Ridiculous all these superstitions! I couldn't care less about the will of the Emperor of Heva. We Olmecs need that Great Treasure! It alone can prevent the aging of our race! For my people, this is a question of life or death! Open that door or he will pay dearly!!"

Episode 37, High Priest: The High Priest tells the story of the Heva-Atlantis war and the creation of the Cities Gold.

Gomez "Hhmmm...Mendoza?"

Captain Perez "Yes, Commander. He is the ideal man for this type of work. He will do anything for gold."

Episode 1:

Mendoza "For over ten years I've been made inquiries about that medal...and I'm almost certain that it came originally from one of the fabulous Cities of Gold."

Esteban "The Mysterious Cities of Gold?"

Episode 2:

Gaspar "So you won't fight! You should teach them how to use a sword for self protection!"

Mendoza "You don't only use a sword to protect yourself, you have to learn to use your head. But I'm afraid that may never have occurred to you, Gaspar!"

Gaspar "What's that!?! Come here and repeat that, you scurvy dog!!"

Gomez "Captain Gaspar!"

Gaspar is frustrated.

Episode 5:

Zia "Don't worry Esteban, I'm not afraid. Really, I'm not, not at all afraid."

Esteban "Oh, really? Not even a little bit?"

Zia "Of course not, Esteban, because I know that you are here by my side."

Episode 6:

Zia "Solaris, the sailing ship of the kingdom of Heva, sleeps inside the mountain."

Tao "That's part of the legend!"

Zia "When thunder rumbles in the depths of the earth, the seals will break and the Solaris of Heva will be born again in the sea."

Episode 8:

Tao "You see, I told you so! Before going off in all directions, you need a good plan, anything!"

Esteban "Oh you get on my nerves! Before you do anything, you always need a book or a plan!"

Tao "Yes, and that's why I usually succeed in everything I do!"

Esteban "Good for you! Meanwhile, let's see where that light is coming from."

Tao "I really don't understand you at all. We should stop and think first...ouch!!"

Episode 9:

Zia "You can't!! You gave your word!!"

Gomez "Well, so I did but now I'm taking it back!"

Sancho "One thing I like is a good retreat!"

Pedro "Oh Lord, help your poor son, Pedro, who needs a little help from just you now.."

Sancho "Never mind him, help poor Sancho!"

Queen of the Amazons "You say he is the Child of the Sun?"

Mendoza "Yes. Yes, Your Majesty. This is Esteban who can command the Sun!"

Mendoza laughs. "I've come here for gold too. And I think you might change your ideas when you have found some gold for yourselves."

Esteban "You're wrong, Mendoza. All the gold in the world won't change us!"

Zia "Of course it won't!"

Mendoza "Wait and see!" Laughs again.

Pedro "Not a speck of it. Nothing."

Sancho "No."

Pedro "Nothing."

Pedro "We're sorry, Your Highness! We're really sorry! We, we promise we'll never steal again! We repent, really!!"

Doctor "He will pay for making us hurry!"

Mendoza "Settle down there."

Sancho "It's now I'm in pain!"

Mendoza "Pain! You're just a pain in the neck."

Gaspar "I've always said that he was an adversary worthy of us. A quite remarkable man!"

Episode 36:

Gaspar "Look here Commander, lets get out now! I mean enough is enough, and this is too much! Its impossible!!"

Gomez "No! You're wrong, Gaspar. We'll stay! This flying monstrosity is going to lead us strait to the gates of the Cities of Gold!"

Episode 37

Pedro "I'm sure glad I wasn't in your shoes!"

Mendoza "But luck was on my side! I had the time to take a good look around and that's when I saw it."

Pedro "Saw it? Saw what?"

Sancho "What did you see?"

Mendoza "You two really are slow! What do you think? I know just where to find the cities of gold!"

Pedro and Sancho "The Cities of Gold!!"

Episode 37:

High Priest "For many generations it has been my family's privilege to guard the gates to the Cities of Gold against all attack. At this present time, its my privilege to be the guard."

Esteban "How long have you been here?"

High Priest "Oh for a very long time but now that you have come, my mission is drawing to a close."

Episode 38

Esteban "Bravo, Mendoza! Good work!"

Mendoza laughs

Episode 38

Gomez "What witchcraft is going on?!"

Gaspar "Ohh! The Earth is opening up! Its like some gigantic fruit shedding its skin!! Ohhh!!"

Gomez "Hardly the time for third rate poetry! We can get into the Cities of Gold through that crack! Forward to the Cities of Gold!!"

Gaspar "Forward!!"

Episode 38

Pedro and Sancho giggle for a few moments.

Pedro "Oh, look. Everybody's here."

Sancho "W-w-w-we really deserve a big reward after all w-w-we've been through."

Episode 38

Esteban asks the High Priest about the mysterious Traveler.

Episode 39

Esteban "Wait! Don't go yet! There is something I need to know. You know that man who came to the Cities of Gold a few years ago? He must have said something about himself. I was wondering if...I was wondering if that traveling prophet could have been my father?"

High Priest "Esteban!"

Esteban "Ehhn."

High Priest "The Traveling Prophet did not remain in the Cities of Gold. I don't know where he went. Esteban. Don't be so sad. You mustn't be distressed. You too must follow your own star and truly become a man. You see in the end a son must do more than his father. Do you know who gave you the name Esteban. Its a nice name. Esteban, Child of the Sun."

Episode 39

City of Gold Guardian "After talking to our own High Priest for a long time, that man, who we call the Traveling Prophet, he realized that the Cities of Gold we not quite what he had thought. Then when our High Priest died and the Prophet took on the duties of the High Priest...he wanted to stay here because he was sure that one day his son, who had been lost many years ago, would come here to join him. He would be shown the way here by the Medallion of the Sun which had once been given to him. "

Mendoza "Now I understand. That man is Esteban's father!"

Guardian "Yes. And now that man, the Prophet, is about to carry out the duties of the High Priest so that the whole world can continue to live in peace."

Mendoza "I beg you, please! Don't tell Esteban that it is his father. It will make it easier for him. And I am sure it is what his father would wish."

Pedro "There's nothing left of the Cities of Gold. They're gone! Did you see?!"

Sancho "We m-might have gotten a little g-g-gold at least. How d-d-dumb can you be."

Pedro "We might not have any gold but we're alive, we're alive!"

Mendoza "So you've decided to leave?"

Esteban "Um-hum."

Mendoza"The Pacific Ocean that you mean to cross is very wide and filled with danger. The challenge you face will be greater than any you've ever know. Why do you want to go?"

Esteban "A man can face the most dangerous challenge so long as he believes he can master it. I've learned that from you, Mendoza."

Mendoza "Hmm..yes. Now that you've made up your minds to try to cross the western sea to follow the road to adventure remember somewhere in the world there are six more Cities of Gold. We'll wait for you at that little tavern in Barcelona!"

Esteban "The tavern where we met for the very first time, that's where we will meet again!"
