Ojo de Lince

Author Description

Ojo de Lince is the story of Commander Gómez, his family, past, but most importantly, his role in M.C.o.G. as the first antagonist. The story is also about gemellarity , or twinness, the balance between hero and anti-hero, and how one cannot possibly survive without the other. The story's narrative is set in medias res -in the middle of things- going back and forth between past and present (the show). I have set it up so that, if you want, you can just read the prequel part without really missing much of the story. Just scroll down until you hit a date. LOL I also want to add I have used original dialog from the show. Although I have expanded and made it lengthier , I claim no authorship to the original that was used which belongs to whoever wrote the script for the show.

Ojo de Lince is my attempt of creating a revisionism of M.C.oG. Revisionism is a genre where an existing novel, fairy tale, or series is re-written or "revised" from a different perspective (often the antagonist's). This genre includes literature such as John Gardener's Grendel, many of the short stories in Datlow and Windling's "Snow White & Blood Red" series, and Gregory Maguire's Wicked.( which is what I often compare OdL to) The popular movie Dances with Wolves is considered one of the most influential work of revisionism because it is a western from the Native Americans' point of view,
and in early westerns they were always "the bad guys".

I've always been fascinated with the roles of "villains" in storytelling…and often my favorite characters in anime, movies, RPG video games, and manga are villains. In Ojo de Lince I hope, as an artist, to explore my curiosity in the character traits of villains, and how their roles become altered when the reader is seeing the story from their perspective.

Of all the villains I've ever liked, Commander Gómez , from M.C.o.G has to have been the most human, and the least "evil". A lot of M.C.oG. fans agree that he and Gaspar weren't really evil ---per se---but greedy and blind to none other than their own wishes. True he did threaten to kill on countless ocassions (lol I cant wait to expand the dialog on that!) …but I think it was more a scare tatic to get what he wanted. Using scare tatics seems to be Gómez's choice method of handling the children which may seem rather harsh…because , after all they are children. His motivation for his more dispicable actions towards the children however, seems to be that they were merely in the way of obtaining his ultimate goal. A truly evil person , in my opinion , likes to harm others for no other reason than the pleasure of harming them (sadists).
